I find it weird to see the new Sony ereader only having a 3g antenna for its wireless connectivity. Moreover, the new wave of ebooks tend to have wireless connectivity only over 3G (or gprs). With a wifi antenna I reckon that the device would be more practical in use and would generate more freedom. So why no wifi integration in this ebook reader?

They can slap a single prefab cell module into it, preprogram it at the factory and have it "just work". Wifi requires user interaction, training/support, security hardening (now you cannot trust your data connection) etc.
It also leads to questions about why you can't install wirelessly from competitors stores. (And, realistically, books are small enough that -any- sort of AT&T signal will be enough to handle purchasing/provisioning. So "oh no I don't get 3g in my living room" won't matter to most people.)
