Sony has guaranteed you will need to keep your PS2 integrated into your entertainment center for the foreseeable future. Its such a pain that theres a million great games for the PS2, while the PS3 is only slowly building its library...

I want a PS2 Slim to add to my collection and add a game system/dvd player somewhere too... now that is a freakishly small system!

Yep, I kept mine (modded). I kinda wanna get the PS2 Slim because...well, it's slim.

Well, I kept mine to play Guitar Hero, but because of the A/V Lag (even with progressive scan) I got frustrated and got the 360 version. I gave my Guitar Heroes to my brother in-law. Figure he and his kids would have more fun with it than I would now.

Even with backwards compatibility, the PS2 Guitar Hero games are ultimate fails on the PS3. You need usb--to-PS2 adapters and none of them work right. It doesn't seem like it would be so hard, but the adapters simply do not work very well. The games play, but the controls are kinda boned...

That sucks, I am glad though all my guitar hero/rockband stuff is on my 360 though.

And whats worse is that Activision didn't give two s**t's about PS2 GH controllers on the PS3. I was PISSED that I couldn't even use the PS3 Guitar Hero Controller on the PS2 versions...that was a big "up yours" from both Sony and Activision...

Yeah i read about that, and thats just stupid, at least most guitar controllers for the 360 work for all the music games.

activision really acted like dickholes with all the guitar hero stuff... I was pretty upset when sony didn't sanction any official PS2 controllers adapters.. really, why didn't it just have the ports itself like the wii had for gamecube controllers... I thought it would be like the Sony PSX DVR I posted on this site - they had full PS2 compatibility on that and memory slots and controllers slots on the back for discreteness... oh well...

I agree, and correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't the 360 support the xbox controllers?

Sorry, you are wrong. There is no "official" way to support the original xbox controllers even though they run off of usb basically. I don't know if you made your own adapter or buy a xbox to usb adapter if they will work or not. Xbox didn't support its old memory cards either. They were both pretty crappy in this respect, except that the PS3's dual shock will work on all old PS1/PS2 games and sony released a cheap adapter so people could catalog their memory cards for the PS1 and PS2. Now thats some good backwards compatibility (20GB and 60GB ONLY)

Some good backwards that they dropped, and i wasn't sure if they had, i never tried it, but i am shocked, the original xbox had memory cards. I think i might have seen them but that was the first major console to have built in memory on that scale.

I had to use the memory cards to take my profile to different xboxes or to a friends and to move saves around my xboxes. Same as I have to with the 360.... indispensable really.....

obviously I am totally adverse to moving my console around... I would rather just buy another one for wherever I am! Its easy when these are cheap though and I got my first Xbox as a xmas present ;)

we've had some great times online but never as good as when we were all in the same apt. or house playing together. I have tried very hard to keep that a possibility with our current setup. The last big housewarming party we had like about 8 people play Halo 3 in 3 rooms and it was pretty great!

Yeah onlines not as fun as running over and face palming the guy you just stuck with a sticky grenade from across the map.

most definitely and lots of people will never experience that... I'm sure in the future the very idea of people taking their PC's and console's over to someone elses place to play will seem quite obscene. Of course everyone will have a pocket pc on them so it really won't matter...

Well true, and if i could play halo 3 on a portable i would probably never turn it off. Man i miss those days, random shots to someones junk wasn't out of the question either, granted this was a firestation.

lol - ya, way different rules! ya, I honestly don't know how Microsoft has missed out on portable Halo... It is its own killer app! They could f over Nintendo and Sony with an amazing portable and our demographic would go nuts for it...
