Topic: Easier way to unlock the display?

Currently i have to press the tiny power button then swipe the lock screen to begin interacting w/ my Droid. That is rather annoying when i'm sitting at my desk going through podcasts. Is there a way to simplify that process aside from just increasing the screen timeout minutes?

I'd like to be able to disable the screen lock ?app? altogether so I can just use the power button to turn off the display and turn it back on (without having to swipe).

To change the timeout simply go into display settings and change it to never. You'll still have to unlock it though if you turn the display off with the power button.

There is an app in the Android Market called KeepScreen that lets you block Android from locking/turning off the screen when specified apps are running. I use it to keep the Music app interface up when I'm listening to music in my car.

Not an easier way to unlock the screen, but rather a way to keep the screen from locking under certain circumstances while still having the normal screen timeout setting work for everything else.

Sliding the keyboard open bypasses the need to hit the power button.

KelchM provided this in another discussion and it helped me. I use it when playing music in the car. Disables screen time-out when plugged in. You shouldn't have to worry about power consumption while plugged in or bumping the screen in your pocket

I too would like a solution to this problem, but keeping the phone awake would not be the answer. I want the phone to lock, I just want a simple 1 step unlock rather than having to press 1) Press Power 2) Swipe. I would like to simply press the power button and that would unlock the phone.

The power button is nearly impossible to press accidentally as it's difficult to press even on purpose sometimes.
That should be enough to unlock instead of having to also swipe. Just gets annoying having to do 2 steps when 1 would be sufficient. Does anyone know of any apps that might do this?

Something else that could work is a quick double tap of the power button (like double tapping the Menu button on most other android phones

But, this would require some serious hackery.
