Been using the CLIQ for the past few days and have noticed that it gets REALLY hot when I'm carrying it in my pocket, almost uncomfortably so. Anyone else experienced this?

I own the G1 and it will get very hot if I have GPS, WiFi, BlueTooth turned on. Always makes me wonder if I'm drastically decreasing the battery life when this happens.... but its so hard not to War-drive with G-Mon.

Might it be the features doing this the same way it does on my G1?

Hmmm, I don't own a Cliq, but any phone that gets hot in your pocket when its not doing anything needs to go back to the carrier or store for exchange.

Yeah, that doesn't sound normal. I've had mine for about a week and it hasn't gotten more than a little warm after charging or heavy use.

I have been complaning for a while to T-Mobile that my Cliq is geting VERY HOT. First
thay told my not to worry when I called back thay said thay already know about that
problem and thay sent me a new battery. I got the new battery and what do you know
it is still getting hot, so I called again and thay told me to go back to the store and
exchange It. When I got there thay made a big fuss about me not having a receipt
even though I was only exchanging my phone and I paid cash for it.
Got the new phone on december 26th 2009 and even the new one was getting hot.
On January 03 2010 I was admitted to the emergency room with 2nd degree burns
on my hand. I will keep you up to date on the results of me suing both T-Mobile
and Motorola.

Andy, you seriously got 2nd degree burns on your hand from holding the phone? I've had a 2nd degree steam burn on the back of my hand once, but that was work related. Did you get the burn on your palm?

Ya I was trying to take out the battery because the phone was getting very hot and I touched the mettle strips on the back by the SD card and burned my thumb. The ER said it was a 2nd degree burn. The doctor thought it was funny amd brought a bunch of other people in to see my hand. Motorola wants me to send them some pics and a statment along with the phone so thay can see what went wrong.

I don't know if it's an Android thing, a smartphone thing, a 3G phone thing, or a charger type issue but I noticed that my G1 phone get's pretty hot when being charged and when it's doing some processes. It doesn't seem to be super hot when it's not charged while I'm using Google Maps Navigation or going online browsing heavily. I never really complain about its heat as it's bareable enough to hold. I would prefer that it doesn't get that hot. It doesn't seem to go hot at all when not charged but it does get warm when browsing a lot in 3G.

I have had the Cliq since October. I have never had any issues with it until this past week. The issues started with the phones QWERT key pad. I would type a letter and it would put in sevral letters exp :a= awevy 8&
I called Tmo and they agreed to send out new phone. A day later I noticed the battery getting very hot. Once angain I called Tmo and they agreed to send out replacement battery. To anyone having issues with their CLIQ my advice is to call Tmo and have them honor the warranty. Its for a year from the purchase date. As long as there isn't water damage or the phone hasn't been abused they have to honor. As for anyone injured from the battery, I wish you luck with your lawsuit. Motorola should have learned their lesson by now on proper battery manufacturing.

Anytime you do process-heavy activity, like navigation, watching video, Web backup, etc., you use a lot of power. That power use releases heat so if your battery is hot there is generally something heavy-duty going on. If you are NOT doing anything like that and it's warmer than usual, you may want to restart it, but be careful that you haven't set some kind of auto-backup that you forgot about. (Like I did.)

So, hot battery is a normal thing within limits. Obviously if you are burning your fingers on the thing, turn it off and walk away! I think carriers and manufacturers take a "better safe than sorry" approach to this since nothing makes the evening news faster than an exploding battery.
