The contract price sounds ridiculous, but the off-contract price doesn't seem too, too bad. Am at least thinking about the phone off-contract at this point to take back to AT&T if I can't handle T-Mo's service.

I'd rather pay 1.5x to 1.7x more than this price and get Sholes/Tao. What I've heard, it feels plasticky and the battery is laughable due to MotoBlur killing the device with constant updates.

I'm a bit confused... Mobile Review reports a price of 150 €... without contract. http://www.mobile-review.com/review/motorola-dext-en.sht

Which would be an amazing price, consider the phone bought, while $450 would be very meh, can't be bothered. So... who is right?

To be honest I think $450 seems more realistic. Glass screen, capacitive touchscreen, 5 MP camera, full feature set, Motorola, slide out keyboard... that is going to cost. The Huawei U8220 is not as well equipped and by a brand only gdgt visitors have ever heard of, and that one costs 200 € without contract.

Yes, I could buy it in the store, but sorry to those of you who may work in a T-mo store, you reflect more intelligence than those in the stores near me.

I just picked one up yesterday. I went to the store because I wanted to play with the CLIQ before dropping $400 on it. I ended up getting a CLIQ and the EM+ plan as well, but the staff at the store near my house (The one in Streamwood, IL) were very helpful, friendly, and they didn't try to upsell me. It was a fantastic customer experience, far better than the trouble I had when I was trying to sign with Sprint 2 years ago.

I know what you're talking about with phone store employees - I've met some terrible ones. I'm lucky to have found a competent store.

my battery was awful 1st day until i let it drain & fully charged now it's good as any other WiFi type device (3G is fine & you need it on if you want your yahoo mail) but WiFi at home is much faster. i bought mine at 369.99 as i was still under contract so i sold my ipod & Wii to justify my want. phone is now 149.99 with contract (25.00 data plan) at tmo but that's what happens to 1st adopters & maybe it didn't sell as much as they wanted so there goes the price. i wish they would support it more like iPhone does with updates... it's 1.5 & the motoblur makes up for it but just knowing that the Droid is 2.0 & came out around the same time makes me SAD. oh well. one more thing; the keyboard is excellent yet the screen or better said the software seems buggy as the screen doesn't respond at times unless you double press the home key twice AND the camera is not as good as my motozine as it just feels like any other 2,3,5mp cellphone camera.
