If Motorola is humoring us again with this 2.1 update for the Cliq, and does not deliver, I will get a Nexus One immediately. Motorola has done this before and not delivered. We will see what happens, won't we

Some updateness:

Motorola announced the CLIQ XT today at MWC, with MOTOBLUR and Android 1.5. It also, however, has multitouch pinch zoom. I wonder if Moto will port that functionality to the CLIQ, seeing as how the two have largely identical hardware?

I would imagine some of the features might be clipped like live wallpapers, or not but I see it using a lot of ram/processing power and battery to make it a usable feature. Other then that any android should be more then capable to run this will a little optimization and if Google really pushed for apps2sd like they mentioned then the internal memory issues would disappear almost overnight.

Yeah, I can see certain things stripped out, especially the 3D accelerated things. Mostly, I'd just like some of the performance improvements and Google Navigation.

I'd love Multitouch too, but I know that's never coming in an official ROM :p

The sad thing is no Flash 10. Although I'm not sure the CLIQ could handle it...

What's the deal with Flash on mobile devices? Why can't they just make it happen?

To much of a resource hog, although I think the Cliq isn't getting it because of motoblur and not hardware..

Not surprising! They can't even make Flash work properly on desktop / laptops computers.

I'm not so sad about Flash - I'd love to be rid of it completely, even on the desktop. I wonder when we'll see HTML5 video and audio implemented on phones. That *should* be considerably easier to port than Flash, I would hope, especially since media players for most of the codecs to be used already exist.

Also, according to Tom's Guide, the Backflip will be released "some time before March," so we may see 2.1 in the next few months.

I wonder how Android 2.1 and flash for that matter will run on the Cliq given the hardware spec. I have been anxiously waiting for this update :)

More good news! Motorola announced a new site dealing with Android upgrades for each of their current phones and regions:

The CLIQ is listed as planned for an Android 2.1 update during Q2 2010, so we should see an update some time this spring!
