Maybe they should invest more in collation of their offerings! I IMPORTED my zune hd to england because i was so impressed with it. I plug my microsoft zune into my microsoft xbox and i have no extra support at all. Nothing compelling for cross sales at all. microsoft could have used one device to sell the other here.
Instead of putting apps on the zune hd - where in my opinion we don't need it - why don't microsoft stop being a reactionary company and inovate by putting and app store on the xbox 360. How many of their own apps would people pay for?
I have a 50inch panasonic viera and i would gladly pay for 'xbox office' for example and use my media keyboard at the coach to type a quick letter or something.
or maybe 'xbox stocks', 'xbox windows live email', integration with their 'skydrive' service maybe

They're already doing this, in a way, since you can install Facebook, Twitter, and Last.fm apps on the Xbox 360 now. Stands to reason that that will only grow with time, I know Microsoft is very focused on extending Xbox 360 as a platform.
As far as integration with Zune: well, that's been a mess. For whatever reason Microsoft is having a lot of trouble getting Zune, Windows Mobile, and Xbox 360 to play well together. It is getting better, and I'm sure we'll see them tying these platforms together over time, but that integration should have been there out of the gate. Problem has to do with Microsoft's organizational structure, the company is made up of fiefdoms that don't always want to work together.

Peter its scary how big a company can get at times. part of me is glad that they aren't a coherent company. if they were then there'd be no chance for anyone else in ANY market. windows would just engulf all.
the scary companies are ones like Google that seem to be spearheaded in one direction. They give before its asked of them. As a customer you can't leave them without detriment.
What i'm REALLY REALLY shocked they haven't done is ..........."GOOGLE DESKTOP 2010". A google desktop client that manages music, ebooks, email, reader,map routes, buzz, documents, calendar etc etc. A one stop shop that ties everything together. Now how scary would that be to the competition. android powered mp3 players, pmps, with intergrated support for drag and drop players. Steal all of wmp's customers.
Who knows eh :-)

The PS3 also has apps: Vidzone, Photo Gallery, SingStar browser, PlayTV, Life with PlayStation(Folding@Home) and soon Netflix. There are also 'web apps' specifically designed to work with the PS3's browser; these are mostly used for IPTV related things. Hopefully both Sony and MS expand their app portfolio.

I have been using the Last.fm app lately and it is very well designed... has the photo slideshow just like on the web and all the same controls, easily mapped to the xbox remote or controller... you have all the stations you set up online and can investigate any band if you like their music - get a small biography and discography...

lastfm is cool but its a standalone app on xbox. you cant play it and cruise the streets of gta or anything. it'll be good for parties though so can't complain.

agreed, theres not much opportunity to use xbox as a music only device... it will work for those who just hook a laptop up to run pandora or last.fm at parties, as this is a standalone player for that and is already hooked up to the tv/stereo...
really wish you could have it in-game though too....

I also think it would be cool if they released an app called "I'm Wealthy" for $1000 which could have a green animated gem floating around... they could have Cortana modeling it to attain geek immortality!!
