So in every review and preview I've read, they mentioned that gaming performance is supposed to increase with 7 over Vista. Is this the case in real-world use? How have people seen performance with 7 compared to Vista?

Games do seem to run smoother on 7 than on Vista and of course XP

To be honest, there could be a myriad of reasons why this is the case. As an example, Dawn Of War II runs a heck of a lot faster on my Windows 7 machine, but then, when I installed 7, I reformatted my entire disk. I probably have about 1 tenth of my previous software, way less files, and a fraction of the resources running.

Regardless, I'll take the improved performance. Gaming or not, mine is running much faster.

I installed the Windows 7 beta and World of Warcraft immediately ran 15-20 fps higher. Now that I have the full version my games run great. A lot of games aren't formatted will for 64 bit OS's but Win 7 works great.

I dont game a whole lot on the Pc but the few that I do play are giving better performance (smoother play, quicker load times etc). Agree with drycoff. Most people have done clean installs and this usually helps a lot but you do tend to notice snappier performance all around on a 7 machine compared to previous versions.

Also drivers play a big part so id advise you to update the graphics, dx, game drivers to the latest so that they can take full advantage of the "perceived" advantages to be had in 7 :).

GameBooster will disable unescessary services before launching your game etc.. Will run as fast or better then XP...

Runs as good as XP if you going from 32bit XP to 32bit 7. I'm moving from 32-bit XP to 64-bit 7, so I see a rather large increase.

I never owned Vista but it sounds like it took up a lot of resources, so I would imagine 7 gives better performance.
