For the life of me, I cannot figure out how to transfer video from my computer to my N1 and play it. I can get the files from the computer onto the N1, but I can't figure out how to either find them or play them once they're there.

I realize I sound like an idiot; my only experience with a smartphone UI is with the iPod touch and by reading engadget. You are welcome to mock me, but if you will give me idiot-proof instructions on how to do it, I would be extremely grateful. I travel a great deal, and I bought this phone to replace the multiple gadgets that I currently have to tote along when I'm away from home. If I can figure out video downloading and playback, I will have accomplished this. And my life will be complete.

Okay, that might be a bit of an overstatement, but still...

Use the Gallery application. If it is not in the right format, you can download Doubletwist and it will automatically convert it for you.

Yes Doubletwist is the only way to put media onto an android phone. I Love it.

I don't think I "get it" with doubletwist. You need the PC side to make it worthwhile? (Based on the reviews) -- no Linux version, no love ....

Another option is RealPlayer SP, I got a demo of it yesterday where they actually used a Nexus One to show off converting and transferring a video.

Meridian Player does a decent job -- plays a lot of formats as long as the bitrate isn't too high
