Google just released an update to the Nexus One that enables multitouch in the browser, maps & gallery apps!

This is definitely going to my "want" list now. I've been an iPhone user for almost 2 years now, but this thing looks interesting!

Yes I saw this and thought, FINALLY! I can't believe it took them this long. I wonder when us lowly users of non-2.1 devices will get an update of this kind. Either that or when will I get to update to 2.1? My feeling is never.

Either way, fantastic day for Android and the Nexus One. I hope more devs start to take advantage of the multitouch capabilities of the phone soon.

Yes!! I'm very excited about this for two main reasons:

1) People (usually with iPhones) will quit bitching about Android not having multitouch. (which isn't necessarily all that better anyway)

2) People that know nothing about tech stuff will now see Android as something "just as good" as the almighty iPhone (when of course, it was already really good but some people are just that ignorant)

Also, does anybody else find it VERY interesting that Google implemented this just a FEW DAYS after Steve Jobs talked crap about Google at his town hall meeting??? Coincidence? I think not!

Not to be stupid, but (as a new Nexus owner) -- how do I check for updates?

You will be notified when OTA is available. Should be rolled out to all this week.

I hope we can turn this off. Multi-touch is lame for most. I think this is just an iPhone playing field level type thing. I like being able to zoom one handed.
