My New Every Two is up next Tuesday. I was going to get the Eris, but I'm definitely waiting for this.

Will the Verizon CDMA version be capable of using Sprint's network?

Technically, yeah but there will be no way Sprint will let it on their network.

A lot of the stuff they keep talking about in the press conference seems to be more about Android 2.1. The only hardware benefit with this phone is the new Snapdragon processor but there is no reason why the current Moto Droid wont be able to do the same stuff if/when it gets upgraded to 2.1.

True, but the form factor on the Nexus is a little more "polished". The virtual keyboard is fine by me.

Oh I fully agree. I think the body and feel of the HTC phones is better than that of the Moto Droid. I tried out the Eris again today and am thinking of going with that over the Moto Droid. I was going to wait for the Nexus but the stuff they're talking about in 2.1 is not that much of a OMG I NEED IT.

I'm really liking that "voice input" feature in Android 2.1. Nice! the better screen is a plus too! Yes, nothing "OMG,I need it!" but darn near it!

Remember though that any phone with 2.0 will get 2.1, so all those fun voice features will be coming to most phones with 2.0. Also according to a post on Gizmodo, any phone slated to get 2.0 will be getting 2.1 which includes the Hero/Eris.

I'm wondering if the Eris's CPU can handle 2.1. The reviews show that it's CPU is somewhat lacking and lags from time to time. The Nexus is pushing a Snapdragon at 1GHz. That's pretty smokin!

As a Droid owner I kind of wish they had killed the keyboard and just released a super thin touch screen device. I also feel kind of pissed that the Nexus One will hit Verizon so soon, but you got to pay a price for being an early adopter I suppose. As long as they push out 2.1 in a timely manner I'll be happy, and I just hope the Droid won't start chugging or lagging.

I agree. Nice hardware to be sure, but not the huge event that this was built up to be, and certainly nothing that makes me regret getting a Droid last month. Most of the 2.1 updates seem cosmetic, and the unlocked versions are still too expensive for most people to consider.

The biggest disappointment though, in my opinion, is that stock Android still doesn't support multitouch at the OS level, especially on a touch-screen only device. It's well overdue by this point.

I currently have a Motorola Droid that will soon become a WiFi E-Mail / Twitter Handheld when the Nexus One comes to BigDaddy Verizon. I have Verizon. So naturally I am excited.

I am super stoked about this phone. I was going to drop the money and buy the DROID Eris, but then I heard that this puppy was coming out and decided to wait! So glad that I did. I can not wait for this phone! My birthday is in the spring so if it comes out as planned it will be a nice little birthday present to myself.
