I have Chrome OS mounted and running in Virtual Box. What is user ID and password? It will not let me create one.

Thanks

Dave, I am having serious trouble downloading the image. The download stalls at about 303 MB each time, though that varies (leading me to believe it's not some weird checksum issue or similar). Any thoughts? Are there any mirrors I can use instead?

Also, where can I get the very latest build, or is that just a fantasy? And if I could find it, what would I need to do to prep it to work for Parallels/OSX? That's a tall order, I know. If I succeed I would of course offer a link to it for others to use.

Thank you for your help,
Kelly Bell

I just downloaded the chrome-os-0.4.22.8-gdgt.vmdk from gdgt.com. I also downloaded the VMWare Player. The only option I have for new or existing is to use an ISO image. The version of my VMWare Player is VMware-player-3.0.0-203739. Is this not a function of the Player ? I also cannot see the file unless I select ALL Files option and then pick the .vmdk file. I then attempt to boot and receive msg that OS not detected. I have no issue loading a Fedora ISO. So after being frustrated I'm downloading an ISO file from another site. I have Win 7 and Virtual PC2007 with Win 2008 Server and Win7 Enterprise installed with no problems.

So, this "OS" relies on another OS to run therefore not replaceing windows or linux??? and not an OS but a virtual one??

There was a link around here for google OS for $34.... is this the more complete version??

Or is it still too early for this to be true?

am i wrong? how so?

I have to admit.. I'm very disappointed! The "OS" is not an "OS" it's a web-browser! Big deal! It also runs terrible in VMWare.. So slow and awkward I was almost contemplating suicide! No hype here.. Guess I'm still stuck with Windowzzzzzz....

It works on my mac running snow leopard with vmware fusion. Is anyone else getting high processor usage when running this, even when you are not doing much within the Chrome OS?

Dave - I have VMware Player installed and I down loaded chrome-os-0.4.22.8-gdgt.vmdk.
Extracted all the files from the zip file.
However VMware Player doesn't recognise the .vmdk file as a VM disk.

Am I'm I missing a step here or does VMware Player not use .vmdk files on MS Windows Vista.

Will this install on anything other then VMWare or is it just limited to that. I really want to try and load it onto my acer netbook to mess around with since i don't care for jolicloud and my netbook remix is all jacked up.

It's only for VMware at the moment. Jon is playing around with the raw image to see if it will work in this situation. I know a few other people who are anxious to try it on their netbooks as well.

Though a Google search I found and ISO version which works but you will need an external optical drive until someone creates a USB version.

[edit: doesn't work]

It seems to be down now but maybe it'll come back.

I plan on trying to get it working on my Eee PC 901 sometime this weekend (Friday or Saturday, most likely). I'll report back with whatever results I come up with.

You have to install ubuntu and make your own bootable version...its very complicated.

Sadly, I can't get the thing to work. It took me a while to figure out how to get it to boot from the ChromeOS disk in the latest VMware player (Hint: make a new, blank machine, then add the ChromeOS disk as extra hardware, remove the default blank disk, then change the ChromeOS disk to IDE:0:0).

I'm now at the logon screen, but Chrome can't see any network connectivity. A quick Google suggests that VMware player has all kinds of network issues with 64-bit OS hosts.

I'm now on a quest to see if I can get it to work in VirtualBox, whose networking I have tested and know works. Wish me luck!

Try and change your network setting in VMWare to bridged.

No luck with network bridging in either VMware or VirtualBox. I'm getting a "Network not connected and offline login fail" message after I fill in my Google account details. Both VM and VB show the network as connected.

Odd. Have you shut off the instance, changed the settings and restarted it? Try cycling VMWare/Virtualbox off and on, and if you've recently installed whichever software you're trying to use try and power cycle your machine.

If after that it still doesn't work, I'm not quite sure what's up. Anybody have any ideas?
