BTW, you can change network to Bridged on the fly, as well as change the operationg system environment.

The potential is there and it'll be exciting to see where it leads to. I think the idea is solid, but there are a couple concerns: One is that without a decent Internet connection, your computer is effectively useless. You won't be able to log in, or if you can, you don't be able to do anything, since nothing is stored on your computer. You will only be able to use your computer when there's a decent connection, and most people aren't going to pay for wireless broadband (though I can always tether to my Android phone). The other concern is that there simply aren't enough powerful web apps currently, and there won't be for a while. There's not a decent web coding environment, and there's not a decent graphics editor, so a lot of people won't be able to do their jobs (which is what I would get a Chrome netbook for, and I'm sure other people would too). Google is obviously looking to the future--they've been pushing this "the future is in the web" thing for a while--but we're just not there yet, and won't be for a few more years, where we can have free web access from literally anywhere, and web apps are powerful enough (and secure enough) to replace the programs we use every day. 90% of our days is on the web, yeah, but we still need to do that other 10%.

P.S. it took a few minutes for time to sync to get rid of that https error.

> I have it running in Parallels 4. In the settings for the VM I set the OS type to "Linux", OS version to "Other Linux", and under Hardware > Hard Disk 1 set the Image File to the HDD file I converted with Parallels Transporter.

But:
1.) The far left pinnable tab did nothing, and requires a Google rather than Gmail login (the password for which I've since changed)
2.) The Chromium menus look Windows based, not Linux.
Maybe it's just way behind the demoed version, as Engadget says, but I'm going to build it for myself instead.

just a question, why somewhere it's called "Chrome OS" and somewhere "Chromium OS"?

Chrome OS is the official Google branded version of Chromium OS that will be sold on netbooks with the Google logo and will have some guarantees such as online storage, recovery, security etc.

It's also very odd not having a 'desktop'! That would take some getting used to!
I guess I wasn't really clear on the concept; it's just the Chrome browser running without the need for WIndows or OS X or Linux... (Duh, kinda like the name implies: "Chrome OS"...)

Download this file and extract it to your home folder, it will make a folder called src which has the two files already in the right place.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/258262/src.tar.gz
(In Ubuntu you can right-click and choose extract here)
Now download this file called common.sh and put it in the same folder as image_to_usb.sh
http://src.chromium.org/cgi-bin/gitweb.cgi?p=chromiumos.
