At this point I've had more then my fill of iPad news. Generally I've been able to just avoid products I don't want to talk about. But due to my on site friends discussions and news submissions. I think it would be shame to unfollow or unfriend some of the great people I met in this community just because I'm sick of one device.

So I think that having likes and dislikes optionally override your stream preferences. This would of course have to be done very carefully, for example on a news story with both a wanted gadget and a disliked one. The want would override the dislike or if a friend submits a story tagged with a neutral gadget and a disliked gadget the choice should default to showing the story with the option of not showing it. The same would go for global stuff like an iPad big debate could be hidden despite big debates being shown in general.

A corollary to the above would be the liking and disliking of companies which, in the above context, I would think is a good idea.

Thanks guys! Keep up the great work.

Definitely an interesting idea. I wonder about the implementation though because there are certain cases in which I would want to hear about one of the products I dislike. Either way, it's something to think about.

That why I think you should be able to toggle it in the stream preferences.

I think it's feasible, and could complement some of the other stuff we're looking at implementing (like a watch list -- a fourth list of products you just want to keep an eye on). Will see about this!

Thats part of the reason I posted was that likes and dislikes seemed to be disconnected from the other bits of the site.

And a watch list, whoa, sounds all Jack Bauer.
