Speaking as an ubergeek (and proud of it), the Droid's alert sound and evil red eye only make me love it more. This phone is clearly aimed at scifi geeks like me -- from the name to the sound to the Cylon-esque eye. And the awesome features and functionality don't hurt, either. ;-)

Great episode! Interesting insight around Netflix. The disk element for the console streaming functionality is kind of odd, I’m pretty lazy and the disk changing sounds complicated though I’m not sure why they wouldn’t wait a month or two to build the full scale app.

Any plans for a video podcast anytime soon?

I've thought about it, but it's hard enough for us to even find the time to do an audio show!

Could the 'Droid' alert sound catch on? Mobiles shouting their name as an alert sound gives them some free advertising :)

I suspected that the requirement of a disc for Netflix on PS3 was a workaround to their exclusivity agreement, and it appears that Michael Pachter agrees. http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10/26/netflix-is-coming-to-t

(see Update)

The fact that they predict it will take almost a year to develop the native app is too unusual, and in an interview Netflix even said "The Netflix agreement with Sony for PS3 is consistent with the terms of our partnership with Microsoft for Xbox 360" when asked about the exclusivity agreement. Not a confirmation per se, but not a denial either.
