Browsing your library or the book store using the cover flow style display on the color touch screen of the Nook is light years ahead of anything you can do on the Kindle. Not to mention the Nook supports side loading any epub formatted ebook or your own PDF files for display back. Can't do that on a Kindle....

Yeah but its kinda incomplete software. Needs loads of updates. Page turning and navigation is a bit slower then Kindle 2

Yeah, but that's what software updates are for. The Kindle2 is a second generation product and the Nook beats it in almost all categories already.

And just look at the E readers at CES! Many of them interface with the Barnes & Noble ebook store just like the Nook so you'd be buying into a growing ecosystem. I don't see any non-Amazon devices connecting to the Kindle store.

Originally I was going to get the Nook, but immediately canceled my order after reading the reviews. I went to visit my local B&N store and based on the reviews I've read, it was true. Then I heard about the firmware update. So, I decided to give it another shot to visit B&N. Improved somewhat. The page turns are faster, and the touch screen navigation has improved somewhat. Maybe I'm a spoiled iPhone user, but the touch screen doesn't have the fluidity as the iPhone, but it works. However, loading a book takes forever. I've even read by users where it looses your book marked place. That would piss me off if I lost my place.

So get the Kindle. Sure, the touch screen is "light years ahead" but like the BlackBerry Storm that was supposed to be the iPhone killer, never came to be. B&N didn't get it right the first time, so my interest in ever getting one is gone. For now.

I had a similar experience to you. I had a nook on pre-order for several weeks and was stoked about it. Then I started reading reviews that made me second guess getting a nook. So I loaded up the family the day after Christmas and we went to our local Barnes and Noble so I could get a hands on feel for it. I found I was pretty disappointed with the responsiveness of the touch screen. I found it laggy and a bit unresponsive. Several times it was lagging bad enough in the coverflow style portion that it thought I had made a book selection and jumped right into a book despite my finger never leaving the surface. When this happened it would take a few moments to try and get back to where I was and attempt browsing books again. I'm pretty sure this can be fixed via updates for those that wish to wait.
