Yeah, I'm pumped. Hope it's not a monthly charge like the ATT navigator app. I also hope it supports the celebrity voice packs. (Must have Homer Simpson telling me where to go!)

TomTom for iPhone will be the same (as far as the software functionality, options and the look & feel goes) as any generic TomTom device, so voices (male, female, foreign languages, celebrities), custom POI's and any additional services and options (like HD Traffic; where available) will all be available and/or purchasable. The TomTom App for iPhone will make use of In-App Purchases, so we can expect that things like voices, additional maps and subscription based services (like HD Traffic) will be purchasable within the TomTom app using the aforementioned In-App Purchases.

As for when it will become available: you can submit your email-address on the following site: http://iphone.tomtom.com to get the latest updates on TomTom for iPhone.

Would you like to find a McDonalds closer than 20 miles away? Fee $10.00!

I am hoping they don't expect people to pay for POI's!! But the rest I would be in for no problem :) as long as their is no monthly fee and they keep the price at 99.99 I think it will be a hit. Any higher than that, I won't buy as there are severe limitations by using this on the iPhone, such as calls coming through and not being able to be in the App at the same time (maybe TomTom fixes this.. lets hope).

I think that since they are allowed to have in-app purchase now that they should let you pay for the map of the region you want and rather than a monthly or yearly fee they can just charge you for the yearly map updates if you decide you need/want it.

as excited about this as getting cut n paste in the 3.0 update..... so VERY !!! the only problem i can see (instantly) is if you have your phone in a case (mine is a vaja red and black case) it looks like you need to remove it to use the car kit.... could be a real pain!

Bit tired of Tomtom not saying anything new. They really shouldn't say stuff like coming soon when it has been a few months now.

Really looking forward to the app and the car adapter .... but they have to hurry up or every other company in the world will have a shonky rip off of it before they release it .... at least get pre orders in !!

I am excited too! I have a GPS but would love to just have to take this with me. (Plus, I tend to lose devices that are not my phone for some reason!)

But, I am worried they will make it a monthly fee service, that would be an epic fail in my book! But I can see it happening anyone else think it will be monthly fee? The other 2 are both monthly fee.

I would rather pay a little more for the app and avoid having to deal with a monthly fee (pain in the @$$). Looking to ditch my old bulky TomTom that constantly drops off my windshield 10 minutes into every trip. High hopes for this thing since I'm holding off on the 3GS and need SOMETHING new to satisfy my urge buy a new gadget.

I doubt they will have a monthly fee for the basic things. TomTom's business model seems like you only have to pay monthly for add ons such as traffic, weather, new maps etc.

I would love to replace my stand alone GPS with my 3GS, but it will have to meet a few requirements. No monthly fee (I would be willing to pay more for the app of course), and it would have to have the option of downloading maps to the phone itself (I don't want to get lost in a place with no cell coverage).

I think I heard the maps were going to be on board the app so that there wouldn't be an issue if there was a gap in service. I could be making that up, though.

I'm definitely stoked for the TomTom app. And like the rest of you, I'm definitely willing to pay premium for the app to avoid a monthly service charge.

What's the most you all would pay for TomTom? And how much is the suction cup thing supposed to be?

It'd be great if it had a walk mode (ignoring 1 way streets, etc.) so I could use it to get around NYC of Philadelphia on foot.

I am so excited for this one. For me it was one of the biggest announcements at WWDC. And I love the hardware that TomTom will be selling to go along with this.

I hope we hear when it's coming out soon.

It will hopefully be better than Navigon's application.

Navigon drains my Iphone too fast. It needs more power than my car charger can deliver ?!

As long as there is no monthly fee, the up front cost is less than $100, the maps are saved on the phone and are updatable, and it plays nice with the rest of the Iphone (i.e. allows you to play music in the app, handles interruptions like phone calls and texts well) then I will buy it for sure.

I would not waste my money on such a thing for several reasons, 1. The maps are not preloaded therefore there always be a need for some type of data connection. 2. The fact that you will always have to be pulling data from their servers there will always be a monthly charge. 3. To do away with the monthly charge the maps would have to be loaded on to the iphone itself taking gigabytes of storage. 4. The battery drain for a 2 hour trip would be unbearable. Finally this is a prime example where a dedicated GPS device will pretty much always do a better job, it has a better GPS radio, the maps are loaded locally, the processing power for this is typically better, directions will calculate much quicker, no monthly fees and in the life of the product it would be a significantly lower cost.

Kickback,

Where are you seeing that the maps wouldn't be preloaded? My understanding is that you will install them on the iphone itself. As for the size of the maps, I have a standalone TomTom and the maps for the entire United States fit on a 1Gb SD card. And that's with the TomTom application itself.

As for the battery drain I would imagine you would have it plugged in as you do with a standalone GPS. I know mine will only run for a couple of hours without being plugged in, so this isn't much different.

Just my 2c.
